In addition to all indoor activities children play outside everyday throughout the year, weather permitting, we consider outdoor play an essential part of learning and developing.
At stepping stones we have two large fully secure play areas. One is grassed with safety flooring and a large climbing frame and slide. There is also a large border so the children can enjoy gardening and growing their own produce. Incorporated in this garden is an enclosed area with safety flooring for babies who are not yet mobile to also enjoy the outdoors. The second play area is paved so that children are able to enjoy riding bikes, cars, trucks pushing prams and trolleys and playing with an extensive supply of sports equipment.

There are also sand and water trays, chalking and painting easels a play house and a number of benches and tables.
At stepping stones we believe that young children should participate in discussions and actions effecting their outdoor play. The outdoor space and curriculum must harness the special nature of outdoors, to offer children what indoors cannot. Outdoors should be a flexible and versatile place where children can choose, create, change and be in charge of their play, young children need challenge and risk within a framework of safety and security.
